The Effects of Offset Loading Versus Traditional Loading in the Bench Press Exercise on Muscle Thickness and Strength in Trained Males

Abstract Purpose This study compared the effects of offset loading (OSL) versus traditional (TDL) in bench press exercise on pectoral muscle thickness and strength over a 4-week mesocycle. Methods: Twenty male participants aged 18–45 years with at least 5 experience one-repetition maximum equal to or greater than their body mass were randomly assigned OSL TDL groups. Before after mesocycle, was assessed via ultrasonography by maximum. Effects explored two-way mixed ANOVA non-clinical magnitude-based inferences. Results: No group-by-time interaction detected for any variable ( P > 0.05). When small magnitudes, pectoralis major changes likely dominant (ES = 0.70; 87% greater) nondominant 0.77; 91% as well sum both pectorals 0.80; 92% greater). Similarly, effect absolute 0.57; 82% likely) relative 0.67; 85% seen OSL. Conclusion: Magnitude-based inferences interpreted here support notion that may be an advantageous training modality enhance strength.
